Thomas and Priscilla's son, Joseph Raney (Riney) was born in 1772 and was married twice. First to Ruthy Silvers on 2-2-1801 in Washington County, Kentucky (Washington County KY records). She died "by 1823". Her father's name was Samuel Silvers who was the son of Joseph and Ruth Silvers. Children: (need birthdates for most of these children!) 1) Valentine (married Ester Love on 10-18-1835 in Martin County Indiana) and (married Betsy Ann Jackson 1-10-1852) 2) Edward (Married Susan Ridge either 7-23-1822 or 12-20-1857 in Martin County Indiana), 3) Margaret b. 1806 (married Barney Reilly b. 1797, d. 7-10-1867 on 5-16-1822 in Martin County Indiana) and d. 7-19-1890 buried in Brooks Cemetery, Martin County Indiana 4) Oliver, a Colonel in the Confederate Army in New Orleans Louisiana, 5) Bede 6) Austin (Reiney) b. 1814 (married Rose Ann Carrico b. 1818 on 2-26-1835 daughter of George Carrico and Elizabeth Cissel (Cecil)) 7) Martin Greenberry b. 1816 8) James Washington 9) Joseph Jr. b. 1822 (married Mary Polly Gootee on 1-25-1847 daughter of Thomas N. Gootee and Nancy Silvers), and moved to Iowa in 1856. His second wife was Cecilia Cissell (Cecil), married 7-28-1823 in Martin County Indiana. Children: 10) Priscilla May (married Thomas Williams on 10-20-1846) 11) Phoebe Ann (married Wm. Thos. Davis on 4-28-1862) (St. Johns Records) 12) Ruth Jane b. 3-27-1828 d. 1-1888 in Martin County Indiana (married John Gootee b. 1823 d. 1854 in Martin County Indiana) and (married Michael Queen 1856) The 1820 Martin County Indiana Census lists a Joseph Raney (Riney) over 45 with 8 sons and 5 daughters so obviously I'm missing at least 4 childrens names (9 through 12 born after 1820 and 8 is uncertain though probable). It is said that the Riney family began to spell their name with an a rather than an i after they moved to Indiana (around 1818). There is another Joseph Riney, who is the nephew of this Joseph and the son of Clement (THIS Joseph's brother) . I have a copy of a page from Clement's Bible (in the possession of Mrs. Walter Joseph Riney of Louisville Kentucky - 1971) stating that this Joseph Riney was born in the year 1813 the 31st day of May. This Joseph Riney married Anna Elizabeth Isabel Cambron. |
